Here are our top tips for creating a brief, so we can easily connect you to the right
professional.
- What do you want to get done? This is the first thing your freelancer will see. So, sum up sufficiently what you need.
- Detail: The more detail you provide, the easier it is for us to match you!
- Budget: Be realistic about your budget, no one wants to work for free. You can indicate what day rate you are prepared to pay, monthly retainer or the total budget you have for a particular project depending on how you wish to structure things. Giving some indication of your budget will avoid time being wasted and will help ensure you talk to the right freelancer that meets your budget needs.
- But I don’t know what I need to pay? If you are unsure about what you need to pay, then do think carefully about what you need your freelancer to do. Provide a clear brief of what your business does, what you are looking for your freelancer to deliver and what outcomes you are hoping for. You can then create a shortlist of suitable freelancers and if needs be ask them to put a project proposal together, so you can more easily select the best individual that meets your business needs and budget.

* Get a contract in place: We'll contact you and the consultant directly to get what's been agreed down in writing, then ask you both to sign it virtually. Agreed contracts will be uploaded to your contracts hub in your account.
* Payment: Payments are made via BACS, with funds paid and held in The Work Crowd's secure client account.
* Timesheets: If you work to timesheets, your consultant is able to raise one via their account for quick sign-off by yourself.
* Release funds: Once you've signed off the work, click release funds in invoices and we'll get the consultant paid. You can also set up auto-release for future payments.
* IR35: We can do an IR35 determination and provide you with the certificate for your contract.

On platform matching: There is no cost to join, to post a project, or to be matched to suitable consultant, advisor, mentor or freelancer , that meet your business needs.
You will need to ensure that all consultants we match you with are booked through the platform, should you decide to work with them.
Invoices are raised through the platform, with The Work Crowd charging the consultant a 15% + Vat ( if UK-based) service fee, which is calculated as a margin of the total invoice value to you. This is built into the invoice generated from your consultants to you.
Your consultant should incorporate this within the rate that they charge you, so please check that they have done so when you agree on a rate with them.
Buy Out - if you hire one of our consultants as an employee on a permanent basis or would like to work with them off-platform, we charge 20% + VAT of what you anticipate paying them over the next 52 weeks from when you notify us this is what you would like to do.
Interim search: Clients can opt for a dedicated recruiter service. Your recruiter will discuss your business needs, help define your brief, map the market based on your needs and conduct a wider search to identify the right talent for your needs. We will provide a shortlist and handle all interviews, offers, and contracts on behalf of both parties. We charge 22% for this and a reduction of 20% for NFP and charities.
We find this service works well for interim and fixed-term contracts that are inside IR35 and PAYE.
Enterprise Managed services - we can provide a bespoke solution depending on businesses' needs. Please get in touch to discuss this.
